Joseph Boissel (1909-1969) Originally from France, he arrived in Laos in 1938 and devoted much of his mission to mountain people, particularly the Hmong ethnic group, in the Luang Prabang Vicariate. Circumstances of martyrdom: He was killed on July 5, 1969, while riding his motorcycle to a remote Christian community to celebrate mass. Despite warnings about the dangers associated with the Pathet Lao’s activities, he refused to abandon the faithful under his responsibility, true to his wish to remain with them. Jean-Pierre Vautier (1927-1961) He also worked as an Oblate missionary, working in Laos in an extremely tense political context. He worked in the vicariate of Luang Prabang, in an area particularly prone to fighting. Circumstances of martyrdom: He was captured and executed on 14 May 1961
