1<\/sup> Continue to love each other like brothers,<\/p> 2<\/sup>\u00a0and remember always to welcome strangers, for by doing this, some people have entertained\u00a0angels\u00a0without knowing it.<\/p> 3<\/sup>\u00a0Keep in\u00a0mind\u00a0those who are in prison, as though you were in prison with them; and those who are being badly treated, since you too are in the body.<\/p> 4<\/sup>\u00a0Marriage must be honoured by all, and marriages must be kept undefiled, because the sexually immoral and adulterers\u00a0will\u00a0come under God's judgement.<\/p> 5<\/sup>\u00a0Put\u00a0avarice\u00a0out of your lives and be content with whatever you have;\u00a0God\u00a0himself has said: I shall not fail you or\u00a0desert\u00a0you,<\/p> 6<\/sup>\u00a0and so we can say with confidence: With the\u00a0Lord\u00a0on my side, I fear nothing: what can human beings do to me?<\/p> 7<\/sup>\u00a0Remember your leaders, who preached the word of\u00a0God\u00a0to you, and as you reflect on the outcome of their lives, take their\u00a0faith\u00a0as your model.<\/p> 8<\/sup>\u00a0Jesus\u00a0Christ\u00a0is the same today as he was yesterday and as he\u00a0will\u00a0be for ever.<\/p> 1<\/sup>\u00a0[Of David]\u00a0Yahweh\u00a0is my light and my salvation, whom should I fear?\u00a0Yahweh\u00a0is the fortress of my life, whom should I dread?<\/p> 3<\/sup>\u00a0Though an army pitch camp against me, my heart\u00a0will\u00a0not fear, though\u00a0war\u00a0break out against me, my trust\u00a0will\u00a0never be shaken.<\/p> 5<\/sup> For he hides me away under his roof on the day of evil, he folds me in the recesses of his tent, sets me high on a rock.<\/p> 8<\/sup> Of you my heart has said, 'Seek his face!' Your face, Yahweh, I seek;<\/p> 9<\/sup>\u00a0do not turn away from me. Do not thrust aside your servant in anger, without you I am helpless. Never leave me, never forsake me, God, my Saviour.<\/p> 14<\/sup>\u00a0King\u00a0Herod\u00a0had heard about him, since by now his name was well known. Some were saying, 'John the Baptist has risen from the dead, and that is why\u00a0miraculous\u00a0powers are at work in him.'<\/p> 15<\/sup> Others said, 'He is Elijah,' others again, 'He is a prophet, like the prophets we used to have.'<\/p> 16<\/sup>\u00a0But when\u00a0Herod\u00a0heard this he said, 'It is\u00a0John\u00a0whose head I cut off; he has risen from the dead.'<\/p> 17<\/sup>\u00a0Now it was this same\u00a0Herod\u00a0who had sent to have\u00a0John\u00a0arrested, and had had him chained up in prison because of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife whom he had married.<\/p> 18<\/sup>\u00a0For\u00a0John\u00a0had told Herod, 'It is against the\u00a0law\u00a0for you to have your brother's wife.'<\/p> 19<\/sup> As for Herodias, she was furious with him and wanted to kill him, but she was not able to do so,<\/p> 20<\/sup>\u00a0because\u00a0Herod\u00a0was in awe of John, knowing him to be a\u00a0good\u00a0and upright man, and gave him his protection. When he had heard him speak he was greatly perplexed, and yet he liked to listen to him.<\/p> 21<\/sup> An opportunity came on Herod's birthday when he gave a banquet for the nobles of his court, for his army officers and for the leading figures in Galilee.<\/p> 22<\/sup>\u00a0When the daughter of this same\u00a0Herodias\u00a0came in and danced, she delighted\u00a0Herod\u00a0and his guests; so the king said to the girl, 'Ask me anything you like and I\u00a0will\u00a0give it you.'<\/p> 23<\/sup>\u00a0And he swore her an oath, 'I\u00a0will\u00a0give you anything you ask, even half my kingdom.'<\/p> 24<\/sup>\u00a0She went out and said to her mother, 'What shall I ask for?' She replied, 'The head of\u00a0John\u00a0the Baptist.'<\/p> 25<\/sup>\u00a0The girl at once rushed back to the king and made her request, 'I want you to give me\u00a0John\u00a0the Baptist's head, immediately, on a dish.'<\/p> 26<\/sup>\u00a0The king was deeply distressed but, thinking of the\u00a0oaths\u00a0he had sworn and of his guests, he was reluctant to break his word to her.<\/p> 27<\/sup> At once the king sent one of the bodyguard with orders to bring John's head.<\/p> 28<\/sup>\u00a0The\u00a0man\u00a0went off and beheaded him in the prison; then he brought the head on a dish and gave it to the girl, and the girl gave it to her mother.<\/p> 29<\/sup> When John's disciples heard about this, they came and took his body and laid it in a tomb.<\/p>","categories":[{"id":160,"name":"Daily Bible"}],"tags":[{"id":188,"name":"Daily Bible"}]}Responsorial Psalm, Psalms 27:1, 3, 5, 8-9<\/em><\/h3>
