Hi,

I am very happy to hear this news. I often don't hear good stuff when people actually do good things to help out the people in Cambodia.

Thank you,

Dear Webeditor,

I am trying to get a copy of the Taize songbook, Taize Songs in Khmer, that I believe the Kompong Cham Catholic Church has published. Can you direct me to a source? I have a congregation in Fall River MA that includes both English- and Khmer-speaking parishioners, and we would like to sing some Taize songs together.

    Thanks very much.

     Rev. Susan

I used to go with my oldest sister (Ly Dany) to the Catholic head quarter across the street of Battambang high school where I attended. I have fond memories of the Catholic and Mgr. Paul Tep Im Sotha. Monseigner knew my sister very well as she was involved with some church activities and charity works during the war.

In California, I have frequently attended the mass at a well organized Catholic church, often in Vietnamese even though I do not understand the language well. The devastation of my family by the Khmer Rouge, my old age in my 50s, and my good relationship with a good Vietnamese Catholic family have brought me much closer to Jesus and mother Mary. Although I grew up in a strong Buddhist family and I am not yet a Catholic, I believe Catholic has profoundly affect my life. I have learned to forgive and to calm down so much the more I get closer to the church.

The Khmer Rouge tortured and murdered more than 70% of my immediate and extended families, including my 77 and 82-year old grand parents, my father, my oldest sister, my oldest brother, and my two young sisters.

There were countless miracles that saved my life, especially when I almost died so many times under the Khmer Rouge. I prayed in Buddhism when I was tied to the back in the middle of the night and everybody thought I would be immediately tortured and murdered like hundreds of other victims in the commune at that time. I prayed when I was almost starved to death and was losing my consciousness; for some miracle reason, all the sudden there was a tractor that took me to a make shift hospital just at the right time.

While I am still a Buddhist, I have also been reaching out to the Catholic church and I feel so much comfortable and closer to it now. I am having a religious identity crisis as I see Buddhism as a good religion while I am reaching out to Catholicism. I hardly go to a Buddhist temple other than taking my 80-year old mother there.

I pray to the lord Buddha (my ancestor’s religion for generations) and Jesus and mother Mary. I would like to ask for forgiveness as I am sorting out my spiritual crisis.
